Metagaming is when someone playing a game is using perception involving content not included with the game, and using it to their advantage. It didn't say why it decided to shut down the standalone app, but it could be part of its cost-cutting efforts meant to help it weather what Mark Zuckerberg calls "one of the worst downturns in recent history." Meta (still known as Facebook back then) designed the app to highlight content from streamers and to provide users with a group chat and other community features.
